My name is Lewis Tinsley and I am 12 years old. I started riding my bike when I was 3 years old and my Grandpaps helped me learn, he was my number one fan and used to come with me to all my training sessions and races no matter what the weather. Because I enjoyed riding my bike so much I started riding at Stratford Cycling club when I was 6 years old. I learnt lots of new skills and I loved it so much I started racing Cyclocross and Closed Circuit Road when I was 7 years old.
British Cycling race in two year age groups and because my birthday is the end of October I am always one of the youngest and smallest, although this just makes me more determined!
I regularly finish in the top 5 in the West Midlands region. I have also raced in the British Schools Cycling Association and I have been 3 times the Regional champion at Cyclocross and 1 time the National champion, I have also won a National Hill Climb race.
Recently I have won the Under 14 mountain bike race called Battle on the Beach in Pembury which I thoroughly enjoyed and I finished 5th in the Regional championships in Lincolnshire.
This year I have started racing National Mountain bikes and I will start the National Cyclocross season in September which I am really looking forward to.
I currently train 3 nights in the week and then race or train every weekend and I mix my training between Road/Cyclocross (depending on the time of the year), Mountain bike and fitness training at Football (I also play football for Evesham United).
I sadly lost my Grandpaps 20 months ago but I continue to race in memory of him.
I am at my happiest when I am doing sport and in my down time I am often found messing about on my bike doing wheelies and jumps and generally learning new tricks!
