ABOUT CASS & FRIENDS
Who do We Help?
CASS & Friends was first set up in 2015 to assist young athletes in the Cotswolds financially with their training and participation in top-level sports.
Catchment Area
This is a local charity for young athletes living in Gloucestershire or Worcestershire between the ages 12 and 18, who attend non-fee paying schools or receive significant sports scholarships / bursaries to attend private schools and are competing at county, regional and national levels.
Athletes may come from a diverse range of sports such as running, fencing, fishing, boxing, darts, cricket, trampolining, archery, cycling, triathlon and tennis to name a few.
Athletes apply to us via our online application form. Then we speak to them on the phone and begin to form a relationship with them by meeting them and talking to their parents, coaches and PE teachers where appropriate. If the application is successful, we give specific financial, emotional and sports mindset support based on need.
If we are oversubscribed with applications we operate a one-off Gold, Silver and Bronze award scheme with the value of £500, £300 or £100 respectively. Athletes receiving these awards are also eligible to do the 8-week sporting success mindset course and become part of the CASS & Friends community.
Why is CASS & Friends Needed?
Although entry into sport through schools and clubs is cheap and available to all, once budding athletes progress from foundation levels to compete at county, national and international levels, the costs of participation start to rise, and there is nothing currently in place to assist them. Getting to the top levels is a long arduous journey and the costs for a typical family can be prohibitive.
Typical costs include:
CASS & Friends cannot help every athlete with every piece of expenditure, but we can make a contribution which may simply make the difference between following a dream and having to give up. It would be great to look back in five years and know that our support lead to a national, international or Olympic medal for someone in our local area.

Typical costs include:
- specialist equipment - such as specialist clothing, training shoes, bikes, wetsuits, etc etc
- specialist support - e.g. expert coaching, physiotherapy, nutrition/body composition specialists
- attendance at elite training camps
- event entrance fees
- travel (sometimes involving overnight accommodation if the venue is far away)
- event organisers often require participants to purchase bibs or other specific clothing - these costs mount up through the year when competing on a weekly basis
