BILLY
I am Billy Keenan and I am 13 years old. I am a member of Aspire Springers Trampoline and DMT (double mini trampoline) club. Three years ago during a summer holiday I went with my brother to a trampoline taster session run at my local leisure club. We really enjoyed it and joined Aspire Springers recreational sessions once a week.
It all started from there. After about nine months the club suggested I transfer from recreational into development and increase my hour per week to three hours a week. I jumped at the chance (!) and started to train specific routines and moves linked into the National Development Programme (NDP) run by British Gymnastics. I loved the sport immediately and this only continued to grow as I increased my hours and my NDP levels by travelling to lots of regional competitions. The last three years have been fantastic. I represent Gloucestershire in both Trampolining and DMT and for the last two years I have been asked to represent the South West in regional finals. Last year was my most successful year as I represented the South West at the English Championships. I also competed at these championships individually coming 4th on DMT and 6th on trampoline. |
I also trialled and gained a place in the English DMT squad for the 11-12 age group. This was brilliant as I got to train with the national squad coaches in Lilleshall and also went to Holland to compete on DMT in my first international, where I came 1st individually and also 1st with the England junior team. Now I am in the 13-14 age category so I have to try and regain my place!
My aims this year are to continue training injury free for 12 hours per week and carry on with my body conditioning work as well. If all goes well I want to podium at the English championships this year and aim for a top 6 place at the British championships as well. I can't see myself ever giving up the sport as the sensation is just like flying and I think everyone should try it. One day I would like to go to the junior Worlds. Cass & Friends have been really kind in supporting me and showing such interest in the sport and my achievements so far. It is quite a specialised sport and to have people interested and supportive gives me a huge lift!! |
