ARTHUR'S BIOGRAPHY
Fencing! Can’t get enough of it. My name is Arthur, I’ve lived all my life in the Cotswolds and I started fencing in yr 6 at my primary school. I won my first major title as South West u14 Foil Boys Champion in 2017 and having experienced all the 3 different weapons in Fencing (Foil, Epee and Sabre), have chosen Epee as my weapon of choice. I train twice a week and do competitions at the weekends around the country so I’ve made many friends along the way. I love fencing because it’s exciting, fast and I enjoy challenging myself on working out the best strategy for fencing my opponent.
My greatest achievements to date are having reached the top 15 rankings in the UK, being selected firstly for the u15 England Epee team and then for the Cadet u17 GB team. I have represented my country at Internationals in Europe which I really enjoyed – seeing fencers from all over the world and getting to know some of them. I am part of the British Fencing athlete development programme and attend many camps throughout the year which are great fun because there’s a brilliant mixture of working hard and then hanging out with my fellow fencers. |
Now in first year of my A level course I have moved up into Juniors u20s and am working towards being selected for the GBR team later this year. My ambition is to make the team that represents GB at the European and World Championships. My family has been the main source of encouragement and support alongside some brilliant coaches past and present and members of my club at Bath Sword – the camaraderie we experience is second to none and drives me even harder to do my best. If we didn’t all love fencing we wouldn’t be putting in all the sacrifice to make it happen.
I am totally thrilled to be given a grant from CASS & Friends – we have to have 2 sets of full kit –one for training and one for competitions. Being on the Cadet GBR team involved 5 international competitions however I could only go to 3: Budapest, Grenoble and Copenhagen. With the new help from CASS and Friends I will be able to increase my potential by going to more competitions domestically and abroad. I feel really honoured to be part of the family of CASS & Friends, learning about how it all started and how much they have helped all kinds of athletes in the area. |
