WILLIAM RICHARDS-BALDWIN'S BIOGRAPHY
Hello, my name is William and I am 15-years old. I joined Gloucester Athletic Club two weeks after my 12th birthday in July 2021 and in my second competition, I won the silver medals at the Welsh National Championships in under-13 Shot and Javelin.
I mostly trained and competed in Shot for my first two seasons, until I placed 5th in the under-15 Discus at the British Championships in 2023. From that point on, I switched my focus to Discus, though I still like to do Shot and Hammer. Towards the end of 2023, I had two minor surgeries on my feet that kept me away from full training for four months so I had a slow start to the 2024 season as I stepped up to the under-17 age group. I was born in Cheltenham but I have eligibility for Wales through my father and I was invited on to the Welsh National Development Programme, which provides a performance pathway for identified talented athletes. |
My form quickly returned and I won the Gloucestershire County titles in Shot, Discus and Hammer, followed by the South-West of England title in Hammer, before winning my first national title when I became champion of Wales, also in the Hammer.
I chose to do Discus through the qualifying stages of the English Schools, where I placed 6th in the national finals. The 2025 indoor season started well and I won the South-West of England title and my second Welsh national title, both in Shot. I currently train six nights a week, three times throwing at the track with my coach and three doing weights at my local gym. My goals for the upcoming outdoor season are to win the Welsh Discus title, win a medal at the British Championships and English Schools, and gain selection for Wales in my age category. The support provided by CASS & Friends will go a long way towards helping me achieve these goals and I am grateful for their involvement. |
