LEWIS POCKNELL'S BIOGRAPHY
|
Hi, My Name is Lewis. I’m 14 years old and I compete in ITF Taekwondo (International Taekwondo Federation).
I started training 2 days a week in 2020 at 8 years old and loved every minute of it. I now train a minimum 5 days a week, with some double sessions a day. I train at Evesham Apex Martial Arts. Taekwondo has 2 elements : Patterns - Pre-arranged sequences of offensive and defensive movements designed to simulate fighting against one or more imaginary opponents. This allows a wide range of techniques in a structured way, improving sparring skills, body shifting, flexibility, balance, and breath control while reinforcing proper posture and rhythm in movements. Each belt grade has a different number of positions / sequence pattern. Sparring - is a controlled combat practice where fighters use kicks, punches, and blocks to score points, improve skills, and develop strategy in a safe, competitive environment. My first ever tournament was in 2022. Which I was very excited for, which set the bar for me. I came away with 2nd place (Silver) for sparring and 1st (gold) patterns. |
I've entered many competitions / tournaments since 2022 around the UK. Each tournament comes with excitement and nerves, as I may face someone I've never sparred with before. Each competition has different challenges, and I gain more experience every time. In the majority of competitions I enter, I thankfully make it to the top 3. I have gained 4 first places (Gold) in National competitions. My latest achievement was retaining the Welsh open champion 3 years in a row for my age and belt.
This year (September 2026) I have been invited to attend the Taekwon-do world cup in Spain! which I'm very excited to be apart of. I'm currently a black tag belt, which is one step away from Black belt, which I will be grading for in October. The future goal is to be selected for the England National Team and represent my country. I have played in 2 football clubs before with teammates and played matches, however felt that I needed more for myself and achieve my own goals. Taekwondo has given me that and I feel this is my place. My Coaches at Apex have guided/ trained and pushed me - Which I can't thank them enough for. Outside of taekwondo training I also love Boxing and weight training. I would like to Thank CASS & Friends for your sponsorship / opportunity and support in helping me gain my goals and dreams. |
