CALLUM JONES'S BIOGRAPHY
Hi, I’m Callum and I am 16 years old. I am a canoe slalom paddler, in the K1 (kayak) category. I started when I was 10, encouraged by my family who regularly compete in the sport and I’ve been hooked ever since that moment. I love being out of doors and on the water. I train 3, or more, times a week all year round and compete from March to October.
My usual training place is Symonds Yat on the river Wye. It’s a natural river course and a nice place to train. I compete all over the country on natural river courses and artificially built courses. As I’ve progressed from division 4 to division 1 the water courses have become bigger and more challenging. As a division 1 paddler I am allowed to compete in Premier division against those paddlers and on Premier division courses (Holme Pierre Pont, the England national water course, Lee Valley, the Olympic course) I made my way fairly quickly through division 4, 3 and 2 into division 1. |
I’m now aiming for premier division and training with the English Talent School. I’m part of Paddlesport Uk’s Slalom School. I trained with them in France (near Lyon) this year. It was a fantastic experience with a range of coaches supporting the paddlers.
One of the benefits of taking part in this sport is the opportunity to make friends and connect with other paddlers and coaches across the whole paddling community. I have a long way to go in this sport and a lot more that I can achieve. I take every opportunity to improve and will continue to progress. |
